Anybody reading this?
I think I'm onto some thing here, and I'd like to hear some outside opinions.
Many people use the phrase "switching gears" to refer to a change they make mentally while they work.
Are you familiar with the expression? What does that phrase mean to you?
What actually changes when a person mentally switches (or "shifts") gears?
I've been writing every day and am actually several days ahead of schedule on wordcount.
But, it's rambly and unorganized (as if you couldn't tell from chapter one) and so I've decided not to post it on the web until I've had some time to organize and edit. No idea when that'll be, but I'll keep you posted. Whover you are out there that actually knows about this site. :)
Chapter one posted. 8085 words. 3000 words ahead of schedule.
Lots of rambling a hint of narrative.
Chapter One: How this Book Begins
Completely un-edited. You've been warned.
Well, it's NaNoWriMo again: national novel writing month, when thousands of crazy people make the push to write a 10,000 word novel.
This year, I signed up to be one of them.
This isn't my first NaNoWriMo attempt, but my past efforts fell victim to a little problem I call the flake effect: biting off more than I can chew, never managing to get anything done. It's a problem that's hit me up in other areas too. I always figured that some day, when I figured it all out and learned to be super productive, I'd write a book about it, and I'd call that book The Flake Effect.
Well, that day has not arrived.
I don't have any answers. I don't have any time. But I do have a handful of promising ideas.
But you know what? I registered flakeeffect.com way back in July 2000. Maybe it's about time I got started.
So here it is. My novel.
What's it about?
Well, they say write what you know... So I'm writing a novel about struggling to write a novel about getting things done.
Yep, it's a self-referential novel. How lame is that?
I know, I know. But Charlie Kaufman pulled off Adaptation. So maybe I can make this work.
I guess we'll find out at the end of the month. :)
