Well, it's NaNoWriMo again: national novel writing month, when thousands of crazy people make the push to write a 10,000 word novel.
This year, I signed up to be one of them.
This isn't my first NaNoWriMo attempt, but my past efforts fell victim to a little problem I call the flake effect: biting off more than I can chew, never managing to get anything done. It's a problem that's hit me up in other areas too. I always figured that some day, when I figured it all out and learned to be super productive, I'd write a book about it, and I'd call that book The Flake Effect.
Well, that day has not arrived.
I don't have any answers. I don't have any time. But I do have a handful of promising ideas.
But you know what? I registered flakeeffect.com way back in July 2000. Maybe it's about time I got started.
So here it is. My novel.
What's it about?
Well, they say write what you know... So I'm writing a novel about struggling to write a novel about getting things done.
Yep, it's a self-referential novel. How lame is that?
I know, I know. But Charlie Kaufman pulled off Adaptation. So maybe I can make this work.
I guess we'll find out at the end of the month. :)
